Hello, I am Donald Dees, owner of Dees Bees Apiary, LLC and a lifetime member of the NC Beekeepers Association, a veteran (US Army, 82nd Abn Inf, Ft Bragg) and a NC Beekeepers Association Certified Honey producer.
Centrally located in the Sandhills region of southern North Carolina, Dees Bees Apiary continues an 8th generation heritage steeped in beekeeping. As a direct decendent of 6th generation beekeepers, I got my first exposure to beekeeping working on my uncles 8th generation bee farm in the mid-70s.
Hauling bees at 2 a.m. on the back roads of Scotland, Robeson and Moore counties in a '57 Chevy was where I learned to drive. A quick break in the community of Johns Station at the convenience store for a corndog /Mt Dew and we were back on the road. Many morning we were just finishing up about daybreak.
Fast forward past high school graduation, college, four years in the military and a thirty two year and counting career as a clinical lab technician and here we are.
In 2015 we began with 6 hobby hives, grew to 15 in 2016, 25 in 2017 and currently 53 hives. After about three years of start up and climbing the learning curve, Dees Bees Apiary LLC was born in 2018.
Not only does Dees Bees sell top quality honey and services, but we are active in the community and schools supporting local initiatives to help those in need as well as helping educate the public on the challenges facing the honeybee.
Located in S Central North Carolina, we experience moderately hot summers and relatively mild winters. Our nectar flow lasts from about early April to mid-late June.
